Boeta silences critics with back-to-basics ploy

Sharks flyhalf Boeta Chamberlain has attributed his goal-kicking masterclass against the Pumas to a “back to the drawing board” approach at training.

Chamberlain slotted eight penalties to bag all the points for the Durbanites in a 24-10 victory at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday.

His man-of-the-match performance will hopefully also silence those who’ve questioned his recent efforts for the Sharks.

“A lot of people said stuff [about my kicking] and it was difficult in the mind space,” Chamberlain said.

“But I just went back to the drawing board and sorted out a bit of the technical stuff [after] a chat with a couple of my kicking coaches.”

The 23-year-old’s flawless display from the tee in Nelspruit also helped extend the Sharks’ unbeaten run in the Currie Cup to four wins.

Sharks skipper James Venter added: “Nelspruit has a bit of spirit about it and the players draw a lot from the crowd.  It was a hard game, but Boeta really brought it home for us.”
