Arendse magic helps Bulls slay Dragons

Kurt-Lee Arendse scored a brace of tries to help the Vodacom Bulls claim a comfortable bonus-point victory against Dragons in Pretoria on Saturday.

Up against the team currently sitting second-from-bottom on the log, the Bulls were expected to continue their run of try-fest wins, after thumping Scarlets last weekend.

While Dragons did well to keep fighting and score three tries of their own at Loftus Versfeld, it was more or less one-way traffic as as the Bulls strode to a 55-20 win, scoring eight tries in the process.

Arendse continued his excellent form of late at fullback, scoring a try in each half. Outside centre Lionel Mapoe also scored a brace.

The hosts had the bonus-point wrapped up in the 37th minute and they took a 31-8 lead into the break. Dragons did hit back with tries either side of half-time, but that did little to disrupt the Bulls’ momentum.

This sees Jake White’s team jump over the Sharks into seventh place on the log, after the Durban side lost to Edinburgh earlier in the day, and cut the gap on the top four to six points.

The Bulls next take on second-placed Ulster in game that will see ex-captain Duane Vermeulen come up against his former side.
