Warrick Gelant made a telling second-half impact to steer the Stormers to a vital bonus-point victory over the Glasgow Warriors in Cape Town on Friday night. In his first match in nearly a month, having last played against Ulster on 26 March, Gelant came off the bench and delivered a sensational second-half performance as the Stormers claimed a 32-7 win to fortify their claim on a place in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship playoffs. The result puts the Stormers 14 points clear of ninth-placed Scarlets, who have three games left to play, including a home game against the Cape side in the final round of the tournament. South African-born Connacht centre Shayne Bolton is hoping to be given a chance to weave his magic when the Irish side takes on the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday. Tappe Henning, the Vodacom United Rugby Championship’s head of match officials, says World Rugby needs to be cautious when it comes to finding a compromise between the red card and protecting the integrity of having 15 players against 15. World Rugby in April said it will examine the possibility of introducing the 20-minute red card as a global law trial. The rule, which is currently being trialled in the southern hemisphere’s elite Super Rugby Pacific competition, means a player who is sent off can be tactically replaced by a substitute after 20 minutes.
