The sports industry specifically Sevens Rugby has once again take a blow from the pandemic as the HSBC Sevens Series dates are rescheduled while the legendary Hong Kong 7s is cancelled. “While it is obviously very disappointing not to be able to go ahead with two of our planned Sevens Series events in Hong Kong and Paris in 2021, the decisions have been taken with the health and wellbeing of the rugby community and the wider public as a top priority, and following extensive consultation with the host organizations, participating unions, and relevant government bodies”, said World Rugby chief executive Alan Gilpin. The new schedule sees a reduced Championship as only five men’s events and only two for the women will push through. It was a disappointing decision for World Rugby tp make specially seeing the legendary Hong Kong Sevens cancelled.   The list of teams announced this week for next month’s Canada Sevens double-header in Vancouver and  Edmonton Sevens  featured the absence of some notable nations, all regulars on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Fiji — who won gold in Tokyo last month, their second-straight Olympic title — plus New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and Samoa will not be making the trip north. In Tokyo, New Zealand were silver medallists in men’s rugby sevens and won gold in the women’s competition, while Argentina won bronze. To blame? The still-raging COVID-19 pandemic. Sam Whitelock has thrown his weight behind New Zealand Rugby’s decision last weekend not to send the All Blacks to Perth, a move that has delayed Bledisloe III against the Wallabies. The All Blacks captain, speaking to Sky Sport on Monday evening, said he believed NZ Rugby was right not to let the squad board a charter flight ahead of the match in Perth, Western Australia, on August 28 because of the lack of certainty around the Rugby Championship programme.
